Want Mercedes? There’s an App for that.
I’m constantly noticing things that could be improved with technology. I’ve been ahead of my time in many aspects throughout my life. When I worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Department of Public Health, I was tasked through the AHRQ grant to upgrade the reporting capabilities of nursing homes and hospitals to the state. At the time they were still faxing hand-written incident reports. I wanted to create a system that allowed any legacy computer software program to be able to submit data electronically. We had issues with privacy concerns as well, which was a big part of the puzzle. It was agreed pretty quickly that my proposals would take 20 years to prepare and implement. Looking back now, that prediction turned out to be accurate.
So when I think of technology advancements today I get very excited. We adopted the iPhone pretty readily, and the applications swooped in and took over our lives. Every business seems to have an app. Then I start daydreaming. I spend so much time in the car, and it is the first place I think of that could use more technology. Siri has become my business and communications assistant. But I want more. Where could I go to see the cutting edge of car technology? The first place I thought of was Mercedes-Benz. After all, they have always been known as leaders in the industry. So, I got in my car and drove to the local dealership in Chicopee, MA to check out the latest tech advances in person.
Sure enough, there have been amazing technological improvements in not only the mechanics of the vehicle, but I was insanely excited to learn that there’s a Mercedes app that seems to be offering the latest in Artificial Intelligence (AI) services. This is Personal Assistance at it’s finest. You have major time-saving options like unlocking your car door via an app. Have you ever wasted two hours of time staring at your keys on the front seat and not been able to get to them? To be able to just fix this with a click of a button makes a tear run down my cheek. But wait - there are a few different versions of the app, the basic version of which is standard for the first five years with any new Mercedes and for a fee you can create even more time-saving services all in one place.
For music and tech lovers, there’s an in-vehicle WiFi hotspot, built-in soundtracks that you can request with verbal cues, and more. Mercedes has decided to perfect the way you speak and relate to AI. This is the most striking feature of the Mercedes improvements. Mercedes understands conversational English. Just say “Play my latest soundtrack,” and like any amazing assistant, Mercedes will do just that. If you get into an accident, help will automatically already be on the way. However, how about your car assistant getting you dinner reservations, take-out, travel arrangements and more? I can’t even count how many times have I picked up prepared food as I’m driving home from a trip. Imagine how much easier that would be with a little help from your personal assistant? “Order my favorite take-out, play my favorite love songs, schedule my next oil change, what’s the weather for the next few hours, and tell me what’s happening this weekend in the area.” (Ok, that was just practice for when I upgrade to my next vehicle.) Hopefully by the time I sign on at MBUX, there will be even more features to help me live a busy and fully enriched life, with lots of AI assistance. It’s no longer just a dream.
